Ex-footballer and coach of Dynamo Kyiv Leonid Buryak shared his impressions of his former team's return match against Turkish Fenerbahce (2:1) in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League, which took place yesterday in Istanbul.
"Bushchan played very decently"
— "Dynamo" defeated a very organized team, Buryak noted. — Kyiv needed this success more, although the Turks spent millions preparing for the match in the Champions League, they made very serious investments.
— Can it be argued that "Dynamo" as a whole deserved the victory more than the opponent?
— For obvious reasons, the Kyivans did not show a bright game, but our team should be thanked for their self-sacrifice. Of course, it was not without luck for us. In addition, Bushchan played very decently, although he is to blame for the missed ball. Giorgiy did not quite successfully get out of the gate, which was taken advantage of by the Fenerbahce defender.
— What did you feel in the first half, when the home team actively pressed, and the Dynamo game, frankly, did not stick together?
— There was nothing strange, because this is an away game. Yes, to some extent, we saw football that was not quite typical for "Dynamo", but in the second half the opponent got physically fit and it became easier for our team. It should be understood that official matches, and I will remind you that the Kyivans played only the second such match, mostly do not turn out to be spectacular. The stake is very high. Dynamo chose a defensive game and this tactic worked.
Of course, we need to figure it out in the future... It will not always be possible to draw matches due to Bushan's game. I will also note that the refereeing in this match was good for Dynamo. This is also important. The main thing is the result.
"Vanat has not yet turned out as he would like"
— It is interesting that the Kyiv players, who did not play official matches for seven months, demonstrated better "physics" than "Fenerbahce"...
— You see what "physics" is, at least on the example of Cristiano Ronaldo. There are conditions - there is Ronaldo, there is no condition, and it is difficult to recognize him, no one wants to sign Cristiano... "Dynamo" has always been famous for its preparation, and now, without looking at all the difficulties, we were able to prepare.
— In such a difficult and responsible match, Dynamo youth took to the field - Vanat, Vivcharenko. How do you like their game?
— Mircea Lucescu always gives young people a chance. But that trust is not always easy to use. We all cheered for Vanat, we wanted him to score... Football players understand that if the coach puts you in such a game, you have to give a result. Vanat hasn't done as well as he would like, but it is very difficult to play in the Champions League. As for some of Dinamo's youth, it seems that Mircea Lucescu wants them to play more than these footballers themselves. In the first team, you have to squeeze much more out of yourself than in the second...
In this tournament, all opponents fight, try to bite the result. The same "Fenerbahce" did not score a penalty at first, and then found the strength to equalize the score. Although, somewhere from the 60th minute, after the expulsion, the game of the Turkish team broke down.
— Is it not worth talking about who was eliminated from the game "Dynamo" at the moment?
- It is not worth talking about shortcomings, because this victory and the team's exit to the next round of the Champions League is like a breath of fresh air. Importantly, the game with Fenerbahce gave Mircea Lucescu a lot of information to think about and to work with. There is a lot to work on.
"Now Dynamo has time"
— What awaits Kyiv in the confrontation with the next opponent in the Champions League qualification, the Austrian "Sturm"?
- Consider that this is a German team - in terms of style, philosophy of the game. The main thing is that Dynamo had time to get in shape. With each subsequent match, with each practice, the team's game will improve. A good sparring match with Everton is ahead, and it is no longer the third division clubs to play with...
Mircea Lucescu, when planning the training, was right - none of the legionnaires will go here, so it is necessary to achieve results through the efforts of Ukrainian football players. We now only have to thank the team, which still has a lot of work and challenges ahead of it.
