The rivals had an equal number of points after two starting rounds, in which both lost to Fulham (Dynamo 1:2, Tigres 0:1) and beat Basel (Kyiv 5:1, Tigers) — 3:0). So, in fact, in the face-to-face confrontation, the fate of the second ticket from our group to the semi-finals of the tournament was decided. At the same time, thanks to the better goal difference, the White-Blues were also happy with a draw.
The first real scoring chance for the Kyivans came in the 16th minute, when the Dynamo got the right to a promising set-piece a few meters from the penalty line. With Matkevich's powerful shot to the bottom corner, the Tigres goalkeeper coped with great difficulty.
Two minutes later, Artem Grokholsky could open the score, who ran into the opponents' goal from the left flank, but his shot into the far corner turned out to be inaccurate.
The Mexicans immediately responded with their moments. First, a free kick from an even more dangerous point, although not so well executed - the ball whistled past the goal post. But a minute later, the Dynamo goalkeeper Pogorely had to demonstrate his skills, pulling the ball out from under the crossbar after a powerful strike by the Tigres forward from the penalty area.
But in the 28th minute, he could not save it either, when a cool powerful shot into the upper corner of the goal from 20 meters was successful for the Tigres player.
After the unsatisfactory result of the first 35-minute period, Igor Kostyuk made a number of substitutions during the break, throwing four fresh performers into the battle at once - Gusev, Yanchishin, Benedyuk and Gorbach.
The Kyivans actively started the second half and in the 41st minute got the right to take another dangerous free kick, but the wall of Tigres players took the ball after Gorbach's kick. A few minutes later, the Tigres defenders stopped the breakthrough to the Yanchishin goal only at the cost of a foul, and the referee appointed a penalty kick, which Gorbach clearly took, sending the ball to the goalkeeper's right corner - 1:1.
In the 49th minute, Artem Slesar had a great chance to score a goal, who, having barely entered the field, closed the cross from the left flank with a dangerous header, but the goal crossbar took the ball.
However, in the 62nd minute, the people of Kiev got their way and took the lead. The goalkeeper of the "Tigers" reacted to Nazar Balaba's cool shot from outside the penalty area in a jump, but deflected it in front of him, where Igor Gorbach ran in time and neatly sent the ball into the corner of the goal with a spectacular one-touch shot.
At the end of the game, Tigres rushed to the attack, but Dynamo fought back, and scored their third goal in a counterattack. Kremchanin and Gorbach, together from the middle of the field, ran out to the Tigres gate, the first lured the goalkeeper onto himself and rolled to the second, and the Dynamo forward hit the empty net, scoring his hat-trick, already the second in the tournament.
In a parallel match of the 3rd round, the outsider of the Basel group unexpectedly defeated Fulham with a score of 2:0. The Kyivans and the British advanced to the semi-finals, scoring 6 points each, while Tigres and Basel stopped fighting for the trophy with 3 points each.
The semi-finals will take place this evening, and the decisive fights for prizes will take place on Sunday morning.
