Conversations between referees and VAR can become public in the Premier League

The video technology has had mixed reviews since its introduction in England's top flight in 2019. Many of the decisions were controversial, especially regarding minor offsides after goals were scored.

As reported by The Times, the plans are part of an aim to help fans understand the VAR decision-making process and increase transparency for fans.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says there is strong support for the idea, but no specific timeframe has yet been set for its implementation.

In the American MLS, a similar concept has already been used, and audio transcripts of the conversations have been published on YouTube. The head of refereeing in the MLS, Howard Webb, plans to return to England as the new chief of referees and bring with him some interesting innovations.
