Dynamo Kyiv, having managed to overcome the Austrian Sturm in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, turned out to be one step away from the group stage of the tournament: in order to get into this main stage, the White-Blues need to play in the playoff round of the League qualification champions to cope with the Portuguese "Benfica".
At the same time, it is interesting that in case of a successful solution of this problem, the composition of Dynamo's possible rivals at the group stage of the tournament has already been determined by 99%.
As a reminder, before the draw for the Champions League group stage, all 32 participants in this stage will be divided into four pots (eight teams each).
The winners of the Champions League and Europa League last season (Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively), as well as the champions of the countries with the highest UEFA coefficients (with the exception of Russia, which, recall how the aggressor country was expelled from European competitions) will fall into the first pot the start of the European Cup season). The remaining three pots will be formed in a typical way - according to the club coefficients of the participating teams.
At the moment, the first and second baskets are fully formed, and in the third basket only one vacancy out of eight remains unfilled.
At the same time, Dynamo Kyiv, according to its current UEFA club coefficient, will be placed in the fourth pot if it enters the group stage. The White-Blues would have some chance of being in the third pot if not for the French Marseille, who, having the same coefficient, will be ranked higher, since France is above Ukraine in the UEFA coefficients table. So even if in all pairs of the playoff round of the Champions League the teams with lower club coefficients turn out to be stronger, Dynamo will only be on the very first line in the fourth pot.
Thus, already now you can get an almost complete picture of the opponents Dynamo will have to compete with if they reach the group stage of the Champions League-2022/23.
If we assume that Dynamo, as well as clubs with higher UEFA club coefficients in pairs, will overcome the playoff round of the Champions League qualification, then the composition of the pots during the group stage draw will take on the following form.
