The head coach of Benfica Lisbon, Roger Schmidt, gave a press conference today, at which he told what he expects from his team's second leg against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League qualifying playoff round.
- We had a good result in the first match, but this is not the end. We played against a good team, they had their moments in the game, and they will adjust their tactics. I repeat that this is not the end for us. And that's why all the players are concentrated. We want to play well from the first second and show that we deserve to be in the Champions League.
— Will you rotate in the roster?
- The result has not yet been achieved, therefore it is not yet the time to make changes, to let other players play. We need the best team on the field and good players on the bench. I won't say who will come out, but we want to play in the best possible way.
— Did the fact that last weekend's match in the championship was postponed help you?
- It was very good for us that we were able to rest and prepare for the second game with Dynamo Kyiv in a calm atmosphere.
— Last season, Benfica reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. What does the team need to get ahead?
— First we have to qualify, that's what we need. Tomorrow we have to play a great game. Then, if we qualify, we'll watch the draw... I'm used to working step by step, our goal now is to prove that we deserve to play in the Champions League. I think they deserve it.
— What positions would you like to strengthen before the transfer window closes?
- It's hard to say, we have a very good team, but we need a balance. We will play many games, maybe 50 or 60. If we want to play in the Champions League and win something, we need to have a good and balanced squad. We have a good team, but some adjustments are needed, whether in defense, midfield or attack, we always have to look to see if there are options in the market.
— What do you expect tomorrow from your fans?
- To be honest, I'm glad to play at our stadium. The atmosphere here is fantastic. I like it when we play here. Fans will give everything, and we will try to thank them by giving the Champions League season. The players are ready and will show it from the first minute.
