President of the Portuguese Football Federation Fernando Gomes commented to Marca on the decision to add Ukraine to the bid for the 2030 World Cup.

“We are honored to add Ukraine to the application. After the invasion of Ukraine, Portugal and the Portuguese Football Federation were part of the program for the reception of Ukrainian families. We open the doors of football for those who need it most.

For some, the inclusion of Ukraine in the application may seem unexpected, but we consider it logical and correct. We cannot be indifferent to the situation in Ukraine. Ukraine will not disappear from our memory,” Gomes said.
