Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been appointed as manager of Championship side Middlesbrough.

The 41-year-old specialist replaced Chris Wilder, who was fired three weeks ago. Independent experience on the coaching bench of Carrick is limited to three matches at the head of Manchester United. He also assisted Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After 16 Championship matches, Middlesbrough is in 21st place in the table with 17 points.
