The 86-year-old former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, during whose term in office in 2010 it was decided that Qatar would host the 2022 World Cup, told Tagess Anzeiger that the choice was a mistake.
Joseph Blatter- Qatar is too small a country, and football and the World Cup are too big. We made a bad choice, and I believe that holding the World Cup in Qatar is a mistake. But there was also a positive in this course of events: since 2012, the social environment and human rights began to be taken into account when choosing a venue for the World Cup, Blatter said.
