The soccer ball that legendary Argentine striker Diego Maradona handballed against England in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup has not been auctioned for £2 million, reports The Guardian.
The ball belongs to the Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser. He expected to receive 2.5 - 3 million pounds sterling for the relic. The price at the start of the auction was 1.4 million pounds, eventually reaching 2 million pounds. Negotiations between the seller and interested parties are ongoing and it is expected that an agreement can still be reached.
Prior to the auction, Bin Nasser said he thought it was the right time to share this item with the world and expressed his hope that the buyer would put it on public display.
The "Hand of God" is one of the most famous heads in history. Maradona scored it in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup against England. Argentina, for which Maradona played, won 2-1 and later won the tournament.
