In the Portuguese city of Porto, at the General Assembly of the Association of European Professional Football Leagues, of which the Ukrainian Premier League has been a member since 2009, an important decision for Ukrainian football was agreed - the allocation of financial assistance to the UPL.

Support for Ukrainian professional football was first discussed at the General Assembly of the European Union in April 2022, when the Executive Director of the UPL, Yevhen Dykiy, in his speech in video format, outlined in detail the current state of affairs in which domestic football clubs found themselves during the military aggression from the Russian Federation.

Over the course of many months, the Ukrainian Premier League and the European League held a regular and productive dialogue, and the result of the communication was EUR 2.3 million in aid, which will later be received by the Ukrainian Premier League and the clubs of the League.

"This financial contribution from the European leagues should help the UPL at the end of the current domestic championship and give hope to the Ukrainian people in the current times", - this is how the EC commented on its decision.

In his turn, Yevhen Dykiy addressed the General Assembly in Porto with a video address, in which he expressed his sincere gratitude for the support and assistance.

"As you know, the Ukrainian Premier League, in full and coordinated cooperation with the Ukrainian Government, the Ukrainian Football Association and the Footballers' Union, managed to do what was considered impossible under the current conditions - to start the national championship. Of course, this season brings many challenges that we were never meant to face, but now the whole world can see that with strong unity, commitment, commitment and faith, anything is possible.

Over the past 9 months, it has become clear as never before how united our football family is. Many thanks to the entire European Leagues team for their comprehensive support of the UPL, for endless hours of consultation and constant efforts to find a way to save Ukrainian football. Thanks to this support, we will be able to complete the most unprecedented football season imaginable," emphasized Yevhen Dyky.

We will remind that the Association of European Leagues is an organization that unites professional football leagues of European countries. Founded in 1997, the headquarters is located in Nyon, Switzerland. In 2022, the number of members increased to 40 (out of 34 countries), while the Russian Premier League was excluded from the EU. The Ukrainian Premier League became a member of the European Leagues Association in 2009.
