Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic commented on the penalty shootout in the 2022 World Cup 1/2 final match against Argentina (0:3).
"It is difficult to comment on something. We gave our all, but we could have played better. The penalty beat us, but more on that another time. We lost the semi-final, but there is still a match for third place.
I have been in two situations. Can't believe it's not angular. Then the penalty... I have never commented on the actions of the referees and I have no intention of doing so. But these are two key mistakes and they decided the fate of the match," Diario Sport quoted Kovacic as saying.
We will remind that the first goal in the match was scored from a penalty awarded by referee Daniele Orsato in the 34th minute of the game.
