Former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Andriy Shevchenko spoke about a visit to Ukraine and a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
“The mood of Ukrainians is incredible, even in such a difficult situation. People cooperate. Ukraine has strength and unbending spirit. We have no other choice.
The last choice for us is to simply give up. Then everything will be over for Ukraine. We have a very clear goal - we are fighting for our land, for our future. We really have one people.
In Kyiv, I was very close to one of the Russian drone strikes. I was about 2 km away from the impact. One of the central electrical generators was hit. As we all know, the Russians are trying to hit critical infrastructure. The sound from the explosion was very powerful.
When I arrive at a war zone, I know what can happen there. It's an incredible feeling when you go there. People suffer, but they are very united. We know what to do, we know how to survive, we know that we should be together.
When light returns in some places, you call your friends and invite them home, invite them to take a shower, share food. That's what people do - they just cooperate, trying to help each other.
While I was in Ukraine, I had a Zoom call with the US Ambassador. Oleksandr Usyk was also there, we discussed how we can help the Ukrainian people in this situation.
We are starting a new project to raise funds for people who need generators. Critical Critical Infrastructure: Hospitals, field hospitals, places where children and soldiers are operated on. This is necessary in order to give them all a chance to save people's lives," Shevchenko said.
