Yesterday in Doha, Qatar, the FIFA Council approved important decisions regarding the calendar of international competitions, it is reported Team 1 with a link to the official website of the International Football Federation.
The FIFA Council has approved several key strategic principles related to international tournament and match calendars for both men's and women's football.
In particular, the next FIFA Club World Cup with 32 participating teams will start in June 2025. In the future, this tournament will be held once every four years.
The windows for the 2025 international fixture calendar will include one extended four-match window in late September and early October to replace the current two separate windows in September and October, while the other windows (November, March and June) will remain unchanged.
To increase the opportunities for teams from different confederations to play each other, FIFA will introduce friendly tournaments - "World Series" - which will take place in the March window in even-numbered years.
The decision to host the 2030 World Cup will be made in 2024, and the bidding rules will be published early next year.
