Cagliari announced the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as head coach

Former Leicester head coach Claudio Ranieri has taken over at Cagliari, the club's official website reports.

The renowned specialist returns to Sardinia after 31 years. Ranieri's contract runs until June 2025. The 71-year-old coach replaces Fabio Liverani, who was sacked earlier this week. After 18 rounds of Serie B, Cagliari is in 14th place in the standings with 22 points.

It will be recalled that Ranieri has been without a job since January 2022, when he was dismissed as Watford coach.
