West Ham boss David Moyes has revealed how he was previously offered the chance to sign Argentina striker Julian Alvarez, but the Hammers boss turned it down. Later, the young forward signed a contract with Manchester City, and then became a world champion in the national team.
"Most recently, I remembered Alvarez, who played for Argentina at the World Cup. A year ago we bought a new scout who says, "Look, you've got to look at Alvarez from River Plate."
I watched him and saw that he had very good technique, he did so many good things as a central striker. But I thought he might not be the one we want. We had Michael Antonio, who was doing very well at that moment, and I had my doubts.
Sometimes players change in six months, but there are others who you don't take and who don't make it. But on Alvarez: I decided then that he was not the one I was going to sign," Moyes was quoted as saying by The Sun.
