The football community of Norway joined the initiative to support Ukraine during the military aggression by Russia, holding a series of charity events under the name "Football for Ukraine". The main one of them will be the international football tournament, which will be held on January 27-28 in the municipality of Lerdal, north of Oslo.
Photo: avfu.org.uaThe Veterans Cup 2023 football festival will bring together 45 men's and women's veteran teams in different age categories, and the main event will be the tournament of national veteran teams, in which Norway, Ukraine, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands will participate. The Norwegian Football Association is one of the organizers of the tournament, and for the first time during the "Veterans' Cup" the competition will have such a wide international representation.
A powerful media company, the participation of football stars of Scandinavian countries, amateur teams, all this is intended to draw additional attention to the support of Ukraine and the collection of such necessary funds to help our country. The Association of Football Veterans of Ukraine, having received an invitation for the national team of veterans to become a participant in the "Veterans' Cup", gladly responded with agreement. The national team's visit to Norway will take place with the support of "Agrobusiness" LLC and the Charitable Foundation of the Sobutsky family.
The national team of Ukraine among veterans became a welcome guest at the tournament, announcing the following lineup: Yuriy Maksymov, Oleg Sobutskyi, Andriy Voronin, Yevgeny Levchenko, Vitaly Reva, Maksym Kalinichenko, Serhiy Nagornyak, Eduard Tsykhmeistruk, Bohdan Shershun, Vyacheslav Sviderskyi, Oleg Shelaev, Andriy Vorobei, Gennadiy Medvedev, Andriy Polunin, Oleksandr Kosyrin, Andriy Khomin, Serhii Pohorily, Vitaly Samoilov, Artem Stargorodskyi, Oleksandr Venglinskyi, Mykola Ishchenko.
Loud names will also be in the opponents' squads. In Norway, Tore Andre Flo, Arne Riise, Frode Grodos, Howard Flo, Stig Inge Bjorneby, Erik Bakke. The coach of the Stole Solbakken national team will also be present at the tournament, he is one of the initiators of fundraising for Ukraine and the face of a charitable media company. Brynjar Gunnarsson, Ólafur Ingi Skulasson, Hannes Sigurdsson, Bjarni Sigurdsson will play in the Iceland national team. The application for the competition of the colorful Faroese national team looks ambitious. The total number of matches of eight football players for the national team is 445 matches!
In addition to participating in the "Veterans' Cup 2023", the veteran national team of Ukraine has planned a rich cultural and educational program. The stars of our football will hold a meeting in the Parliament of Norway and the Norwegian Football Association, will appear on television, and will take part in a charity evening in support of Ukraine. Legends of Ukrainian football perform an important mission, emphasizing the need for even greater support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.
