Ajax Amsterdam entered a peak in the course of the current season. Yesterday, the capital's club failed to beat one of the underdogs of the Dutch championship, Volendam (1:1), and extended its already long losing streak in the national championship.
The last time Ajax won the Dutch championship was on October 22 last year. And now the team's streak without victories has reached seven matches: one defeat and then six (!) Draws in a row.
Such a long losing streak is an anti-record in the history of the club. Moreover, the last time something like this happened to Ajax was more than half a century ago - 58 years ago, in 1965. In total, seven matches in a row without victories in the history of Amsterdam were recorded four times - in 1962, 1964, 1965 and now in 2023.
Note that Ajax is the reigning champion of the Netherlands. But in the current season of the Eredivisie, the tournament position of the Amsterdam team is still far from the champion: only 5th place after 18 rounds. 7 points behind the leading Feyenoord.
Recall that the result of Ajax's long losing streak was the dismissal of head coach Alfred Schröder. The corresponding decision was made by the club's management after yesterday's draw with Volendam.
