UEFA made a fair decision to deprive Russia of points in the odds table for the current season.
Previously, the aggressor country in the rating was given the minimum odds, despite being excluded from international competitions.
Although not a single Russian club participates in the current European Cup season due to disqualification, UEFA for some reason decided to compensate the Russian Federation in the summer of 2022 and added as many points as they scored in the worst season in 5 years - namely 4.333.
It is not at all clear why 0 points were not immediately assigned for the participation of 0 clubs. UEFA's logic then raised big questions and a flurry of criticism from experts.
After the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, teams from Rashka were excluded from all tournaments of the 2021/22 season. And then all sorts of "sraptaki" were not allowed to the new season of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League 2022/23.
It seems that UEFA finally admitted their mistake, and now there is a dash in the UEFA coefficients table. In the UEFA coefficients table, Ukraine occupies the 16th position, which entitles only four teams to participate in European competitions after a season instead of the usual five. Moreover, in such scenarios, only one club can enter the Champions League. It is very important to rise to at least 15th place before the summer.
What’s good is that Ukraine has two clubs left in the European Cup playoffs: Shakhtar (Europa League) and Dnipro-1 (Conference League), and this is more than the closest competitors. It is realistic to catch up not only with the Czech Republic, which all the teams dropped out in unison (we need one win and one draw), but also with Switzerland and Norway, which have only one representative each in the spring.
