The head of the Premier League refereeing committee, Howard Webb, has apologized to Arsenal, who lost points in the English Championship match with Brentford (1: 1) after a mistake by VAR referees, informs The Athletic portal.
The fact is that Brentford scored a goal from a clear offside, but the VAR referees still recorded a goal for Arsenal.
Webb apologized for the "substantial error" and called an emergency meeting of the judging committee. One of the VAR referees who worked at the Arsenal match has been replaced by another specialist.
The draw allowed Manchester City, who had beaten Aston Villa 3-1, to close the gap to Arsenal in the Premier League table to 3 points. Arteta's team has one more match in hand.
