At the RCDE stadium, the match between Espanyol and Real Sociedad started with an early yellow card from Espanyol's O. Gil in the 18th minute. This was soon followed by the first goal of the match, scored by T. Kubo of Real Sociedad. A few minutes later, the first substitution of the game took place: F. Calero replaced S. Gomez with Espanyol. This was soon followed by two more Espanyol substitutions as N. Melamed and O. Gil were followed by R. Sánchez and J. C. Lazo.
The second half began with another Real Sociedad goal, this time scored by A. Sorlot. Five minutes later, Espanyol received another yellow card, this time to M. Braithwaite. However, in the 63rd minute, luck came in the form of L. Cabrera's own goal from Real Sociedad. Espanyol then made their fourth substitution when A. Vidal replaced JC Lazo. Real Sociedad then made two substitutions at once: M. Oyarzabal and B. Mendez replaced R. Navarro and M. Merino. In the 74th minute, Espanyol were rewarded for their efforts when S. Darder finally equalized with a goal. Just a few minutes later, in the 80th minute, Espanyol received another yellow card, this time by L. Cabrer. Soon after, Real Sociedad reacted by also making three substitutions: A. Illarramendi, P. Marin, A. Sorlot, C. Fernández and A. Barrenechea entered the game, replacing A. Sorlot, A. Sol and P. Marin. respectively. This was followed by the winning goal of the game, Espanyol's second goal was scored by B. Olivan in the 87th minute. Espanyol continued to press with their last substitution in the 90th minute when Vinicius Souza replaced H. Gragera. Unfortunately, one final yellow card, as well as a red card in the 89th minute, was enough to disappoint Espanyol, resulting in a 2-3 loss to Real Sociedad.
