Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has spoken out about Manchester City striker Erling Holland.
"To be honest, when he joined Manchester City, I thought it wasn't the ideal option for Holland. The reason for that is Pep Guardiola's style of play. I watched them four or five times when I commentated on Citizens matches. I have the opportunity to see the whole pitch and Holland's emotions of frustration when he doesn't get the ball. I don't think that will ever change because Pep's team doesn't play that kind of football.
People will look at his goalscoring record and criticise me for saying that, but I think any striker will score 30 goals in a season at City, any decent striker. Holland is obviously a special striker, so he can score 40 goals. When Holland played for Dortmund in the Bundesliga, we saw the best version of him. Erling's speed was frightening, but we don't see that now. This is not a criticism of the player or Manchester City. It's just not an ideal match. I don't think we will ever see the best of Holland under Pep," Goal quoted Carragher as saying.
It will be recalled that the Norwegian scored 31 goals in 29 matches for Manchester City, including 25 goals in the Premier League.
