Argentina and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been named FIFA The Best Goalkeeper of the Year.

In the voting, the 30-year-old footballer was ahead of Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid, Belgium) and Yassine Bounou (Sevilla, Morocco). Martinez, together with the Argentine national team, became the 2022 World Cup champion, defeating France in the final match in a penalty shootout.

Emiliano Martinez's teammates Lionel Messi and Lionel Scaloni received the prizes for the best player and coach of the year.
