Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice shared his opinion on the transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar to Chelsea for 70+30 million euros.
- Recently, Shakhtar made a transfer bomb - the transfer of Mudrik to Chelsea. How does this transfer look from your point of view?
- For me it's a surprise. Especially in terms of the transfer fee. The value of this player is very high. Indeed, this is a great soccer player, but the final amount of the transfer surprised me. I must say that Chelsea made huge purchases during this transfer window, for amounts up to 120-130 million dollars (323 million pounds in January), and this is really important.
I'll say it again. I was amazed that a player, who had previously played only in Ukraine, was sold for such a price.
- You were surprised by the transfer of Mudryk, but you are also good at selling players. Last summer, Bayern paid EUR 20 million for a 17-year-old forward Mathis Thel. How did you manage to do that?
- Indeed, last year we sold a 17-year-old player to Bayern. To be honest, our policy, as I said before, is rather to keep the players, give them the opportunity to develop, for them to play for us more. We give that opportunity, and we're always happy for players to develop that way.
This particular player played only 75 minutes for us. Of course, we would have liked him to play more for us. But it was his wish, so we couldn't keep him - so we sold him to Bayern.
