In the previous matches of Group 6, Yuriy Moroz's wards defeated the tournament hosts from Cyprus (4: 2) and lost to Ireland (0: 3). Now our guys met with the Italians at the Municipality of Geroskipou Stadium in Paphos. They only needed a victory to get out of the group.
At the beginning of the match, the Ukrainians had several chances, in particular, Kalyn did not beat the goalkeeper in close combat and broke the rules. Later, our team's goalkeeper Surkis had to save the day, including when Ranieri Galli came out one-on-one. However, in the 40th minute, Ravagnoli managed to open the scoring, left unattended in the penalty area.
Later, the Italians continued to test our goalkeeper. The Ukrainians responded with free kicks from Ponomarenko and Osipenko. In the 64th minute, Ponomarenko made a dangerous shot after a corner, but the opponent made a clearance from the goal line. And in the 77th minute, the Italians cut through the Blue and Yellows' defense and scored for the second time - Liberali scored.
At the end of the match, the Apennines scored the third goal - a great shot in the "nine" was struck by Mendicino. Therefore, the youth national team of Ukraine lost - 0: 3, took third place in the group and, unfortunately, will not play at the European Championship.
