The Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle ended in a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the Magpies at City Ground. In the first half, both teams played back and forth and in the 22nd minute, Nottingham Forest's Eric Dennis received a yellow card. Just four minutes later, however, Dennis redeemed himself by scoring against Forest. Newcastle's Dimitri Berne received a yellow card in the 33rd minute, but they managed to tie the score before the end of the first half thanks to a goal from Alexander Isak. The second half began with the first substitution for Newcastle: Allan Saint-Maximin replaced Emiliano Anderson in the 46th minute. Nottingham Forest followed suit in the 58th minute, replacing Ryan Yates with Remo Froehler.
Nottingham Forest's Matt Gibbs-White received a yellow card in the 59th minute, but Newcastle's joy at taking the lead in the 64th minute was short-lived - the goal was cancelled due to offside. The last 10 minutes of the match passed in an active struggle, substitutions and yellow cards were handed out left and right. Nottingham Forest made two substitutions in the 79th minute with Andre Ayew and Nathaniel Williams replacing Sam Surridge and Dennis respectively. Newcastle's Jacob Murphy replaced Matt Ritchie in the 84th minute, and it was at halftime that the final drama occurred. Nottingham Forest received two yellow cards, one each for Froehler and Kiernan Navas. In the final minutes of the half time penalty, Newcastle was awarded a penalty kick, which Isak converted. Nottingham Forest made one last substitution, releasing Jonjo Shelvey in place of Gabriel Scarpa, but it was too late for them to recover. Despite Nottingham Forest's valiant efforts, Newcastle managed to win and consolidate their place in the top half of the Premier League table.
