eldest footballer and sports director Mykhailo Kopolovets shared his thoughts on the European Cup season of Ukrainian clubs.
- "For this European Cup season, I give our teams a 'C' on a five-point system. Unfortunately, this is our current level. There is a war in the country, the domestic championship is weak, the teams are made up entirely of young people who do it for a pittance, which is why we have such a result in European competitions.
It is clear that Shakhtar was the most sympathetic. The young coach managed to mold a very good team out of young players. But after Mudryk was sold, the Pitmen's attacks became toothless. This was clearly shown in the four spring European Cup matches. And the defeat against the Dutch... It is possible to lose and even sometimes necessary, but not like that. It's painful to talk about Dynamo in general. To take the last place in a mediocre Europa League group... How can it be?
UEFA has created a new tournament, the Conference League, so that teams that rarely get to European competitions have a chance to play at this level. Only with easier opponents. And they pay good money there. But even this did not motivate Zorya and Vorskla to make it to the group stage. It's strange, because these clubs suffer from lack of money, and participation in group stage matches could significantly improve their financial situation. For European clubs, a million or two million euros is nothing. For our teams, it's a lot of money. However, not everyone managed to earn it," Kopolovets said.
