Iceland defeated Liechtenstein by a final score of 7-0 in a European Championship qualifying match at Rhinepark Stadium. The game began quickly with Iceland scoring its first goal in the 3rd minute. Despite their best efforts, Liechtenstein was unable to prevent Iceland from scoring a goal. However, Liechtenstein was able to prevent H. Haraldsson from scoring a second goal. In the 40th minute H. Haraldsson's goal was canceled out. At halftime Iceland made the first substitution, releasing J. B. Gudmundsson instead of M. Anderson. Liechtenstein also made two substitutions: S. Luchinger replaced A. Netzer and L. Traber replaced F. Wolfinger. The second half started the same way as the first, with Iceland scoring early.
А. Gunnarsson scored in the 48th minute, increasing Iceland's lead to 3-0. However, both teams received yellow cards during the game. In the 56th minute A. Finnbogason got a yellow card for Iceland and in the 60th minute F. Wolfinger got a yellow card for Liechtenstein. As the game progressed, Iceland continued to dominate, making three more substitutions in the 65th minute. Impressively, Iceland scored three more goals within 3 minutes of each other: A. Gunnarsson scored his second goal in the 68th minute and then again in the 73rd minute, on a penalty kick. Liechtenstein made two more substitutions during the game but failed to score. Iceland continued to go forward and in the 85th minute A. Gudjonsen scored and in the 87th minute M. E. Ellersson scored. The game ended with Iceland scoring six goals in the second half alone, leaving Liechtenstein scoreless. Despite the loss, both teams played well and Iceland certainly established itself as a strong team through this victory.
