Former Dynamo, Dnipro and Ukraine national team striker Serhii Konovalov commented on FIFA's decision on the new format of the final tournaments of the World Cup with 48 teams.
Sergey Konovalov- As a matter of fact FIFA recognized that the format with three teams in a group is not optimal due to the possibility of losing the intrigue in the last round, and also due to the possibility for the teams to finish the match with the result which is beneficial for both teams. For example, if two teams had three points each before the final round, a draw in the final duel would satisfy both teams. FIFA's decision prevented any possible collusion between the national teams. And in general, three teams in a group is not interesting. That's the format of the League of Nations, and it's unattractive.
There's a feeling that FIFA went too far with the number of participants. It's good that there will be a lot of matches, but many of them might turn out to be just boring, - Dynamo quotes Expres.
