Famous former coach Myron Markevych commented on the appointment as an acting coach of the Ukrainian national team of "Aleksandria" and the youth team of Ukraine Ruslan Rotan and also shared his thoughts about who should lead the main team of the country.
Myron Markevich- Sergey Rebrov is considered to be the main candidate to coach our country's national team, but it is unknown whether he will manage to become its coach or whether he will extend his contract with Al-Ain, or maybe he will go to Europe. Such news has led to the emergence of a new candidate - Croatian Slaven Bilic. Will a foreign specialist manage to lead our team to success?
- I think one of our coaches must work. Someone who knows Ukrainian soccer. It`s hard to say about Bilic. He is a good coach, but this is a different country and there is no telling how he will prove himself. It's not that simple. When there is a real signal that he is offered, then we will be able to talk about something. In the meantime it's just a rumor.
- You say that the Ukraine national team needs a domestic specialist. Yesterday it was reported that Viktor Skrypnyk and Igor Iovichevich are considered for the position of the head coach of the country. What do you think about these candidates?
- They are good coaches, but they work. Will Jovicevic give up Shakhtar? Probably, unrealistically. Skrypnyk? Probably, but he also has a contract with "Vorskla". It is difficult.
- Ruslan Rotan on his way to the acting head coach of the national team was not stopped by the fact that he has a contract with the youth national team and with Oleksandriia.
- I said straight away that there was no need to do that. There was no need to offer it at all. Rotan is the kind of guy that probably could not say no. But, as time has shown, he should not have agreed, but focused on the youth team. Because the Euro 2023 youth final is ahead, God willing, we are to go to the Olympics, and he needs to focus on one thing. Ruslan has been here for a while now, and I think he does not need to go on (I think he won`t need to become the head coach of the national team any more.)
- How would you assess Ruslan Rotan's work with the national team in the match against England in the qualifying for EURO 2024?
- What is there to assess? He had been training for five days. This is not serious. Moreover, we got to such a team. Players themselves should have had a more serious attitude. We should not lose so easily. We should`ve supported him somehow, as he was entrusted, the players should`ve showed more zeal.
