The Brazilian "Batel" is temporarily renamed to "Mariupol" and will play in the uniform of this Ukrainian club, as well as use its emblem.
"Batel in a Mariupol uniformThis unusual decision was the result of the fact that the city of Guarapuava, where Batel is based, is known for its largest Ukrainian diaspora in Latin America. The city's population is 52,000, 75 percent of whom have Ukrainian roots.
"The point of this idea is to help Mariupol survive, to help the club overcome the way to the moment when it resumes its full existence in Ukraine again. In addition, this decision is a message to the world that we also support the fight for the independence of Ukraine", - so commented the decision to rename "Batel" to "Mariupol" the president of this club Alex Lopez.
We should add that "Batel" plays in the third division of the state of Paraná. As for "Mariupol", because of the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine, the Pryazov people were not able to start the current Ukrainian championship. However, the club retained its place in the UPL. At the moment, Mariupol is temporarily occupied by the Russians.
