UEFA president Aleksandar Ceferin talks about plans to introduce a salary ceiling in Europe.
- Surprisingly, everyone agrees. Big clubs, small clubs, governments, clubs owned by billionaires all agree. We need to think seriously about a salary cap in the future. If budgets dry up, competitive balance will become an issue. It's not about ownership, it's about the value of the competition, because if five clubs always win, there's no point anymore. But it has to be a collective decision - of each league and UEFA. Because if we do it and the other leagues don't, it doesn't make sense. I hope it happens as soon as possible.
We are now approaching a new rule that will come into effect after 2024. Up to 70 percent of income can be spent on salaries and transfer payments. But this measure is not enough, because 70 per cent of revenue of five billion is quite a lot," Ceferin told the BBC.
