Former Dynamo and AC Milan forward Andriy Shevchenko has shared his expectations of the Champions League semi-final clash between AC Milan and Inter in an interview with Allmilan.it.
Andriy Shevchenko- Milan managed to beat Inter in the Champions League in 2003. Why?
- We all had the same feeling - a sense of the importance of the match. Some of us couldn't sleep - there was so much tension.
- What was the atmosphere like in Milan in those days?
- The city was shaking, the match was great. Before the match, when we arrived at the stadium, we saw a lot of fans, and inside the San Siro the atmosphere was incredible. When you go out onto the pitch, you immediately forget everything else and the tension disappears. Both teams wanted to win. The beauty of this derby is that it is seen as an important challenge.
- Is Leao already a top player?
- This is his second season, in which he is performing well, Rafa is proving to be a great player. He still lacks stability because everyone knows his level, his immense ability and they expect a lot from him for his characteristics and talent. In my opinion, he can still grow and give much more. He has to find a balance and be in charge in every match. Will he stay at AC Milan? I do not know, it's not a question for me.
- Can AC Milan beat Inter as they did in 2003?
- Absolutely, AC Milan could repeat history. The defining player could be Leao, Tonali or Giroud. AC Milan have players who have been playing very well this season. Brahim Dias and Theo Hernandez are also having a great season.
- The final in Istanbul: Do you believe in destiny?
- AC Milan got their revenge against Liverpool in Athens in 2007. I would like to see AC Milan in the final, it would be a dream for everyone.
- Would it be nice to see AC Milan in the final against Ancelotti?
- Both semi-finals are good, even Real Madrid vs Manchester City. Of course, to see the Milan coach in the final against his AC Milan would be great. Carlo is a great coach, we'll see.
