Former Dynamo centre-back Carlos Zambrano spoke about the offer to play for the German national team, but turned it down.

In Germany they give you that opportunity, when they need a player, then they are willing to do all the paperwork. But I told them that was impossible. I chose Peru despite all the adversity," said Zambrano.
At 16, Zambrano left Peru and moved to Germany, where he was at the Schalke academy for several years.
