Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin spoke about the club's financial problems at an international conference in London.
- We have lost half of the team. We have now lost €40 million worth of investments. And, as far as I understand, FIFA now wants to extend this Annex 7, and we will lose an additional 40 million euros. Therefore, we are losing confidence in what we are doing, the determination to continue investing in Ukrainian football, because there is no protection. We are on our own. We are trying to protect ourselves.
We sold Mudryk to Chelsea. This helped us to continue the club's work and pay back our debts, because FIFA allowed our players to leave, and the clubs continued to demand to pay for these players. Can you imagine that? Our creditors are asking us to pay. But when I argue about how we can pay if there is no way to sell these players, they just disappeared, and we have a war going on, no one cares. That's why the money we received from the sale of Mudryk helped us pay off these debts," Palkin said.
