PSV head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has resigned from his position a round before the end of the Dutch league.
"Head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy announced on Wednesday morning that he is leaving PSV. On Tuesday night, a meeting was held between the board of directors and van Nistelrooy, where it was decided to focus on the match against AZ next Sunday and talk about the future later. However, on Wednesday morning, van Nistelrooy announced that he felt he did not have enough support from the club. He immediately explained this to the players and staff. This Sunday, at the request of the management, Fred Rutten will take over as head coach on an interim basis," PSV said in a statement.
This decision brings to an end van Nistelrooy's seven-year tenure with PSV, as the club legend worked his way up through various positions as coach of the U18, U21 and finally the first team. In his partial year with the PSV first team, the 46-year-old won the Super Cup and the Dutch Cup.
