Ukraine continues to suffer from the war unleashed by the Russian aggressor, which is terrorising peaceful cities in our country. Unfortunately, children are also affected by the war. In early May, another attack on the capital by enemy drones damaged the building of Kyiv Gymnasium No. 154 in Nyvky.
The blast wave and debris from an enemy "shahed" shattered windows on three floors of the school, smashed many doors, and damaged windows and ceilings in the corridors. After this arrival, all the students of the gymnasium, which is about seven hundred children, from grades 1 to 11, were forced to switch to distance learning.
However, the Ukrainian people are unbreakable. While our national heroes are defending the country on the front line and driving enemies from our lands every day, other Ukrainians are rebuilding what was so brazenly destroyed.
The history of Gymnasium 154 dates back to the middle of the last century. Among its graduates are those who died heroically defending Ukraine during the war with Russia - Alexey Oschepkov, Nikita Nedovodiev, Alexey Bobkin. Among the former students of the gymnasium are also famous personalities, such as singer Iryna Bilyk. There are also famous football players and coaches of Dynamo Kyiv, such as Anatolii Shepel and Volodymyr Onyshchenko. Dynamo president Ihor Surkis and his elder brother, UEFA honorary member Hryhoriy Surkis, also studied at the gymnasium.
Upon learning about the damage to the building caused by the explosion of an enemy drone, the Surkis Brothers Charitable Foundation immediately took over the reconstruction of the damaged building. In a short time, new metal-plastic windows were installed on all three floors. And Hryhoriy Surkis visited his native gymnasium to check the state of repair of the windows, meet with the headmaster Larysa Semenivna Lishchynska and personally ask if any other repairs needed to be organised.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the work will not be limited to the installation of windows, so the Surkis Brothers Foundation will continue to provide assistance to the educational institution until all the damaged premises are fully restored.
"Thank you for being with us today! I am confident that Ukraine will win!" - said Grigoriy Surkis to the director of the school and handed over souvenirs from the Dynamo football club, including a ball signed by the players.
"It's hard to believe that everything was restored so quickly," said Larysa Semenivna Lishchynska, the school's principal, "We have experienced repair work and overhauls more than once. As a rule, they were delayed for six months. And when so many windows - over a hundred - were installed in such a short time, it's just amazing! I would like to express my respect and gratitude to those people who come to the school where they studied and received their education with a big heart and open mind. They responded in the first moments of the tragedy, immediately calling and saying they would help. We are sincerely grateful to the Surkis brothers!
Today's pleasant discovery for us was that the repair work does not end there. All the less urgent damages caused by the blast wave will be repaired as soon as possible. That was the word. Without pathos, without bravado, without unnecessary conviction. Quietly and calmly, balanced and confident. This is something incredible!"
