Shakhtar CEO Serhiy Palkin described how the club would have developed had it not been for the war that has been going on since 2014.
"We finished the 2012/2013 season with an average attendance of 42 thousand at the Donbass Arena in the Ukrainian league. By and large, that's the best figure in Eastern Europe in general. People will not come just to watch something that is not interesting. They were interested to be at the Donbass Arena, they were interested to see what happened on the pitch, to be involved in it.
If nothing else, today Shakhtar would have been among at least the top ten clubs in Europe. We were really moving up, everything worked out. And when you have 42 thousand in the stadium and 54 thousand in the European Cup, it's a different world altogether," Palkin said in an interview with Goncharov's Youtube channel.
