A street in Haifa will be named after Sergei Balanchuk. This is the decision of the city's municipality, which decided to honour the memory of the former Dynamo and Maccabi player who died in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Balanchuk came to Haifa at the age of 21. After two and a half years in the green uniform, he returned to Kyiv. In Ukraine he also played for Vorskla and Metalist.
Sergiy was killed last July near Bakhmut. Haifa councillor Kirill Katernik put on the agenda the idea of naming a street in the city after the former player, and after the proposal was approved, the municipality decided that this would be the street where the Russian consulate is located.
