Serhii Kovalets', the former Dynamo Kyiv midfielder and the current Ukrainian coach commented on the successful start of the Ukraine national U-21 football team at Euro 2023, which defeated Croatia 2:0 in the match of the 1st round of the group stage of the tournament.
Sergei Kovalets- Which player from the Ukraine youth team impressed you in the match against the Croatians?
- The whole team worked well. I liked how our guys acted in defence and in the midfield. Taloverov and Kashchuk worked very reliably. Plus Trubin who has confidence in the frame. Bondarenko skillfully orchestrated the game, Brazhko controlled the defensive zone, Sikan tried to join the tackling. So, the teamwork was good.
- In the next game of the continental youth championship our boys will face an important meeting with the hosts Romania...
- It is very important not to underestimate the opponent, because I read that Croatia and Ukraine will fight for the second place in the group.
It is pleasing to note that a positive atmosphere prevails in our youth team's camp. In particular, it was confirmed by the fact that four players from the national team - Trubin, Mudryk, Sudakov and Vanat - wanted to be in the squad and arrived at the location of Rotan's team the day after their game with Malta. Admittedly, each of them could have gone on holiday, but this did not happen - they chose the opportunity to defend the honour of Ukraine at international level. This shows great trust and motivation of the players.
Now, before the match against Romania, the coach must find the right words. I believe that this game will be for the second place in the group. Especially as the Romanians play at home and will have a full stadium to support them.
