UEFA inspectors have recommended that Spanish side Osasuna be suspended from next season's Conference League because of match-fixing, according to the club's official website.
The case against Osasuna for alleged match-fixing in the 2013/14 season against Betis has led to this state of affairs. Even the size of the financial component appears in the proceedings: Betis received €600,000 for their defeat to Osasuna and victory over Valladolid.
However, Osasuna will appeal against UEFA's decision.
"The club does not share UEFA's criteria. We will appeal and we will fight legally to assert our rights.
With this decision, UEFA intends to punish Osasuna and its current managers, who have lodged a complaint with the court, launching legal proceedings to recover money illegally stolen from the organisation's accounts. And this is the only known case in the recent history of European football of a club prosecuting some of its own former managers," according to a statement from Osasuna.
It should be added that Osasuna finished seventh in the Spanish championship last season and won the right to play in next season's Conference League - from the play-off round. If Dynamo Kyiv successfully passes the 3rd qualifying round of the tournament, Osasuna will be among the possible opponents of the Bilo-Syni in the play-off round.
