Spain's head coach Santi Denis commented on his team's performance in the 3rd round of the Euro 2023 group stage match against Ukraine.
"Ukraine did not leave us any space and did not give us time to play calmly. We have to be critical of ourselves. I have to apologise for my nerves, but the fourth referee explained everything to me. Refereeing is a very difficult role, but the level here is very high. We can all make mistakes, as it happens to me, but the best referees of the future are here.
The first goal came from the left flank, but I didn't want to put pressure on the players, so everything was calm. We needed to improve our defensive play, but Ukraine did not allow us to do so. They have quality players, we had the better of the chances, but we had to adjust in defence and on the ball," Marca quoted Denis as saying.
