Barcelona president Joan Laporta is discussing with Lionel Messi's representatives the possibility of inviting the Argentine after the Camp Nou stadium is reconstructed.
"I have agreed with Messi's representatives to honour his contribution. The opening day of the Spotify Camp Nou would be a great date.
Messi wanted to return to Barca. It was hard for him in Paris. His father told me he didn't want any pressure. We, the Barca fans, respect that. May he do well in Miami," Laporta said on TV3.
Next season, Barcelona will play its home games at the Estadio Olimpico Lluís Companís, which hosted the 1992 Olympic Games, while the Camp Nou will undergo a renovation. A return to a full Camp Nou would perhaps provide a kind of farewell to Lionel for the fans. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Messi has played to empty stands for the last 15 months at the club.
