Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is seriously considering retiring from professional football despite his current contract with Parma, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
Buffon joined Parma after the team's relegation to Serie B in 2021, exactly 20 years after he first left the club to sign for Juventus in 2001. Gigi Buffon vowed to help Parma return to Italy's top flight, and the Crusaders came close to succeeding in the season that ended, stopping one step short of their coveted play-off target.
Emotionally affected by the defeat in the transitional matches, Buffon, whose contract was extended until the end of the 2023/24 season in February 2022, thought about terminating it early. In recent years, the goalkeeper has been struggling with the effects of injuries, and at the age of 45, recovery is not always quick.
