Today is a significant day for the long-standing supporters of Kyiv Dynamo. It is because today could have been the birthday of the legendary player of the Bilo-Syni Viktor Kolotov:
Victor KolotovViktor Kolotov (1949-2000) is a former footballer who played in the midfield position. Viktor Mikhailovich started his professional career in 1967 at Seagull club from Zelenodolsk, a year later he moved to Trudovye resurs (Labor reserves) Kazan. Kolotov didn't stay with his new team for long, as he was noticed by the more distinguished Rubin from the same Kazan.
Having spent two years in Kazan, Viktor Mikhailovych moved to Kyiv where he started to defend the colours of Dynamo. All Kolotov's professional successes are linked with this club. Six Soviet league titles, two national cups, Cup Winners' Cup (on photo), as well as UEFA Super Cup. Seven times Kolotov was named in the USSR Top 33 Player of the Season list, five of which were in first place. As a member of the USSR national team he took second place at the 1972 European Championship, and also twice won Olympic bronze (1972 and 1976).
After finishing his career as a footballer, Kolotov started coaching. He worked as assistant coach in his native Dinamo and also headed Kyiv's Borysfen, Prykarpattia Ivano-Frankivsk and the Ukrainian Olympic team.
Viktor Mikhailovych died of a heart attack in January 2000.
