Former Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has criticised the Catalan club's transfer policy.
- Looking from the outside, we can discuss the transfers of the Catalans. They don't work for the future, neither from a financial nor a footballing point of view. Gundogan is a great player, but he should have been signed earlier. A club that looks to the future must calculate everything in advance.
When I was a coach, we had no money. But I saw that the team had Pedri, Nico and Xavi. In the Netherlands, we are used to giving opportunities to young people. You have to work hard to have a good future.
It's not specifically about Gundogan. You cannot sign players of that age and give them a contract for two seasons. If you think about the future, the transfer of a 22-year-old player is better than the transfer of a player who is 32 or 33 years old," said Ronald Koeman.
It will be recalled that Ronald Koeman coached Barcelona from August 2020 to October 2021. The Dutch specialist led the team to win the Spanish Cup.
