Turkish Trabzonspor star Turgay Semercioglu, recalling the story related to Dynamo Kyiv as part of an interview with HaberTS, made it clear that he considers this club to be a Russian team. Notably, the journalist who spoke to Semercioglu did not correct him.
"Trabzonspor head coach Ahmet Suat Ozyazıcı was more than just a mentor for us. I remember we had a match with Dynamo Kyiv in Russia (we are talking about the first match of the 1/16 finals of the Champions Cup-1981/82, which took place in Kyiv in September 1981 and ended with a 1-0 victory for Dynamo - ed.).
We are in the hotel and there is not much time left before the match. But I am playing backgammon with Chaiji Ahmet. And Suat is watching our confrontation so much that it's as if he forgot about the match with Dynamo. Then he came to his senses and even scolded us. There was a fuss before the game, but we still managed to cause enough trouble for our opponents," Semercioglu said.
