Ukrainian footballer Hryhoriy Barchyshyn has been killed at the front, according to the Base of Ukrainian sports Telegram channel.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Hryhoriy Barchyshyn joined the territorial defence of Kyiv and later joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in eastern Ukraine and evacuated wounded comrades.
He was killed by an enemy artillery shell that hit the defender's car during a mission near Popasna, Luhansk region.
Barchyshyn was a graduate of Lviv's Karpaty school and played for the second team. He also played for clubs: "Halychyna-Karpaty (Lviv), Obolon-2 (Kyiv), Chayka SC (Petropavlivska Borshchahivka), Gostiny Dvir FC (Vyshneve), Synkovychi FC and Karpaty-Kamianka (Kamianka-Buzka).
The deceased is survived by his wife, son, parents and brother.
