Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk has been elected the new captain of Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold became vice-captain, the club's press service reports.

"This is a really great day for me, for my wife, for my children, for my family. It was a special feeling and I can't describe it at the moment. But it is something I am very, very proud of.
I will do everything in my power to make everyone happy and proud of me and the football club," Virgil's words are quoted on the team's website.
