UEFA has named the officiating crew for the first match of the 3rd qualifying round of the Conference League between Greek Aris and Dynamo Kyiv, which will take place next Thursday, 10 August, in Thessaloniki.
Jarred Gillett, 36, from Australia, will be the chief referee of the upcoming match. He will be assisted on the lines by Englishmen Neil Davies and Harry Lennard. The fourth referee, also representing England, is Michael Salisbury.
Gillett has been a FIFA referee since 2013. But it is only since 2023 that he has been on the same FIFA list as referees from England, so it was only in the 2023/24 season that he began to receive assignments for European matches. So far, the Australian has worked only one such match: he was the chief referee of the match of the 1st qualifying round of the current Conference League between Danube Streda and Dila (2-1), which took place on 13 July.
But this match is not Gillett's first European experience. On 16 June this year, he officiated the Euro-2024 qualifying match between Belarus and Israel (1:2), and in March he worked at two matches of Euro-2023 (U-17) qualification.
As for the degree of strictness of the head referee of the Aris vs Dinamo match, Gillett is a rather loyal referee: he shows an average of 4 yellow cards per match, while he gets a red card in every 6th match. The Australian has awarded a penalty in about every third match under his stewardship.
