It's official. Edson Alvarez is a West Ham player

London-based West Ham have made their first transfer of the summer off-season, the club's press service reports.

According to a source, the Hammers have signed Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez. The Mexican has played for Ajax since 2019, during which time he won two Eredivisie titles and the Dutch Cup. The 25-year-old midfielder played 69 matches for the Mexican national team. Alvarez's transfer fee was around £33 million.

"I am very happy and proud to be here. To be here in London and see the London Stadium is amazing. I can't wait to play here in front of the West Ham fans.
